Betty T. Wooten Scholarship Program

Betty T. Wooten Scholarship program is a 501C Foundation that has been established in memory of Betty T. Wooten and to continue her lifetime commitment in the areas of education and nursing. Betty T. Wooten recognized the importance of education and had a passion for nursing since her early days as a child in Thomasville, NC.  Therefore, the family has formed an educational scholarship fund in memory of their beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Wife who passed on January 10, 2009. Betty Wooten, BSN, RN, MSN dedicated her life to nursing, training student nurses, and educating the general public on health issues. Betty was an avid teacher, health advocate, role model, and a woman of God. As a founding member and President for over 20 years in the Ebenezer AME church’s Health Ministry, she worked tirelessly promoting health and well being in the congregation and the community. She loved and was loved by her Ebenezer church family!

Betty’s nursing education began at Winston Salem University and continued on to the University of Maryland, which she earned a Master of Science in Nursing. Betty’s career evolved into becoming Director of Nursing with the DC Dept of Human Services and later as a Professor and Nursing Coordinator at the University of the District of Columbia.

The foundation will assist deserving minority high school graduates in their pursuit of higher education in a nursing related field. The hope is that this scholarship program will encourage students to continue their education beyond high school and continue to make a difference in someone else’s life, the way Betty T. Wooten did throughout her life.
